Crazy horse I did not know anything about his life when I painted this piece. It is one of my first pieces after I discovered my own Native heritage and began to let images an impressions flow on to the canvas. I would then research all the images I had in each piece and found to be correct every time. Before Crazy Horse became the great war Chief he had a vision that was came with thunder and lightening and the Great White Buffalo. He was shown he would become a great and invincible warrior who would be killed by one of his own people and he would be invincible to the white man's bullets. After he had this vision he wet his finger and dipped it in the dirt and drew a lightening bolt on his left cheek. I found from a movie later on TNT, these facts were true, along with his light eyes and curly wild hair. The horse's head and the warrior’s are one and the poem on the back "Now He Speaks" explains my first psychic impressions of this man before I knew who he was and what the images I painted symbolized.
